NARRATOR: Are you looking for ways to save money on your prescriptions? You may not be aware of some of the resources to help lower your bill from the pharmacy.

Tactics such as prescription savings cards and enrolling in patient assistance programs may significantly lower your co-pay, and in some cases allow you to get the medications your doctor prescribes.

For example, the savings card for NEXIUM®, or esomeprazole magnesium, offers eligible patients instant discounts, with most patients paying $18 each for up to twelve prescriptions of NEXIUM, with no activation or program enrollment.

LeAnn Poole, licensed pharmacist for AstraZeneca, offers helpful saving tips:

LEANN POOLE:

  • Create a list of medications you take and compare it to the preferred drug list from your health insurance
  • Work with your doctor to prescribe preferred medications appropriate for you 3
  • Look for prescription savings cards and see if you’re eligible to use one
  • Speak with your health insurance to see if there’s a mail order program and if you’re eligible to participate
